Ian, CEO, North Pole by Eric Hansen (Book Review #37)

This review is written for Online Book Club.

“I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.”

Eric Hansen educates you on this journey of discovery with everything that has to do with Christmas. This book is really like a biography for Christmas, how Santa works and where the toys are all made from? What cultural differences are there? How many departments does Santa have? And any possible question, slightly tempting your mind regarding this yearly celebration is explained in detail in this book.

Ian is an enthusiastic Elf; always in seek of learning more about his job and Christmas. He begins his journey as an apprentice helping with the packing of toys. However, his daydreaming gets the better of him and causes him to be moved to a much more suited job. Unfortunately, that too does not do him justice either. Eventually, this happy go lucky Elf decides to find his fate and destiny all by himself.

“Rule one is to obey all rules and rule two is to never assume anything.”

The cultural studies support group that happens to be in his new department allows Ian to become more than just an elf working to get toys ready for Santa. He studies about different cultures and various countries. Every location celebrates Christmas differently. Gradually, Ian becomes the core member of the group he joins conducting meetings and get together’s. The more Ian learns, he discoveries other methods that can help Santa in his duties, however, cannot express any of the findings until something special happens and that is when Ian finds his destiny.

There is no grand plot or a playful twist to this story. It is a simple, cheery read along book suitable for anyone that is in a joyful mood. Essentially, the Christmas spirit and the festiveness of giving others the opportunity to grow is the core message this book provides. It is a great read for children of all ages, and it can also be used as a guide in answering questions that kids start asking when they wonder about the logistics of how Christmas and Santa Clause work.
