Fatal Fondness by Richard Audry (Book Review #696)

Fatal fondness is a historical mystery novel written about Mary MacDougall. The fourth book begins with Mary starting her own detective agency. Her father instructs her to have her older cousin, Jeanette, employed as her secretary, but in reality, she is there to watch over Mary. Her real job is to keep Mary away from the charming Edmond Roy.

As Mary begins to investigate crimes, she comes across a drowned body, and that complicates things further when she realizes that the case leads to international ramifications. Mary’s life is in danger, and the story takes off reflecting this young woman’s perspective, ambitions, love and sense of independence. Edmond is not deemed suitable for Mary, and she has her hands full trying to keep the job she loves.

 

The literature was superbly written. I thoroughly enjoyed the protagonist being a woman and relished reading on the relationship between Mary and Jeanette.

 

Since this is the fourth book of the Mary MacDougall Mysteries series, I felt a little out of place reading the story since I had not read the previous books.

 

I would recommend this series to people who like to read historical mystery, women fiction and detective stories.
