A Firefighter Christmas Carol: And Other Stories by Douglas R. Brown (Book Review #1124)

A firefighter Christmas carol is a collection of ghost fiction stories involving first responders. It is a beautiful book because it puts forth the courage and emotional stress firefighters face. It also discusses the effects of PTSD, how to recognize it and seek help.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The stories are primarily supernatural and horror-related and involve first responders and firefighters facing grief, mental illness, violence, and many more triggering emotions. I found them thought-provoking and impressively presented. The author demonstrates a fair vision of who firefighters are, what we all think about them, and the things we don’t see.

Since the stories are short, you aren’t expecting any character development background storyline. What does exist, though, is well-written stories and realistic situations that are believable and keep you intrigued.

I recommend this book to collections story readers and those who wish to know how it’s like to be a firefighter.
