A Three Hour Tour by ROSE ELAINE
I should begin by saying this is my version of a “three-hour tour,” Not quite Gilligans Island; there wasn’t Gilligan, the Skipper, a millionaire, his wife, a movie star, a Professor, or Mary Ann! Just a kindly bus driver and a stubborn child.
I attended Second Grade at Finegayan Elementry School in Guam, the home of the flying fish! I rode the bus on my first day of school, and getting to school was not a problem. Getting home, however, became a huge challenge! I was seven years old and found myself on the wrong bus. The bus driver would ask, “Does this look familiar?” Stop after stop. I would shake my head and say, “NO!” I would not budge. The bus driver was very kind. After three hours, we found MY bus stop and saw my mom waiting for me. I can’t imagine how frightened she was. Oddly enough, I don’t remember being afraid – steadfast in knowing that I was not getting off that bus until I knew I was in the right place and confident that I would get to my destination.
Stubbornness and confidence have been of great value to me as a writer. As I began to write my book On Rosy Lane, I navigated new waters. I was not sure what I was doing, but I was confident in my goal to write a lovely story that people like me would enjoy. I also knew I would not stop until I reached that destination! Once again, I stopped and said, “No!” and returned to my journey to rewrite and learn from my mistakes. This “tour” took much longer than three hours, but this “tour” was well worth the ride.
My name is Carla, and I am the author and the artist behind Rose Elaine and the Rosy Lane series of books. I have had the opportunity to travel worldwide, and I have crossed the Atlantic Ocean 10 times and the Pacific 6 times! I graduated from London Central in High Wycombe, England. Attended college in Kansas and began my sales career in Chicago, Illinois. Currently, I live in Tennessee and find joy in painting and writing every day. Traveling has been a blessing to me. I have had so many experiences and have met so many people. These experiences planted the seeds that grew into the characters, situations, and plotlines. Writing brings me great joy.
As an artist, it has been fun to illustrate and create paintings and drawings that represent how I imagine Rosy Lane to be. I am inspired by the gardens in England’s lush green grass, not to mention the beautiful Roses.
