Braving the World by Pam Saylor (Book review #951)

Braving the world is a memoir written about Pam and Dave’s journey of a lifetime. They retire and take a year-long trip to Italy in order to travel around. By staying three months here and three months there, they see so many beautiful countries.

The journey is written with honesty and is very entertaining. Every moment is explained and felt as Pam lets us know of the hurdles she faced, the downsides of certain aspects of the journey, all the fun she endured at other instances, experiences she gained, and cultures she understood.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Unlike other travelogue books, this memoir indeed came with wit and information. Who could have thought retirement was so exciting?

What I predominantly enjoyed about the book was how Pam and Dave also used this opportunity to reconnect. The literature was written well and was described satisfactorily. The target audience may have been geared to an older audience.

The author definitely did her research before traveling, and this was noticeable in the planning process. They had to have certain visas, bring their medications, and consider so many other implications. Altogether the memoir was very entertaining to read.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read a couple’s retirement journey and those who enjoy memoirs.
