With Face Aflame by A.E. Walnofer (Book Review #1121)

With face aflame is a beautiful story told about a seventeen-year-old girl named Madge. She has a huge birthmark on her face and is very self-conscious about it.

When she meets Keaton, a deformed minstrel, things change. He discovers that she can sing and praises her, causing her to gain a little confidence. Things begin to look a little better for Madge until she overhears something that causes her to pursue finding healing water. She just wants to get rid of the mark on her face.

The story is told in such a beautiful way. From the beautiful book cover design to the content inside, you could easily feel the characters’ pain, which made you want to reach out to her. I found Madge to be so relatable in so many ways, and her character was what really pulled the story together.

The premise was novel to me, and for that, I was pleased with what I read. I recommend this book to those who like to read historical fiction.
