Ashes in Venice by Gojan Nikolich (Book Review #1225)

Ashes in Venice is a crime thriller story about Dr. Jasper Colt and his decision to take things into his hands when his wife and two daughters are killed, and the police fail in their investigations.

I enjoyed how the title “Ashes in Venice” was derived from Colt’s arrangement to have the remains of his family interred in the city by the same name in Italy –– a parallel symbolic metaphor for the setting of much of the book’s action in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Venetian Hotel & Casino.

It was beautiful to watch Colt’s emotional struggle and demeanor due to what had happened to his family. I enjoyed reading this book. The story is about revenge and murder, so it is subject to violence. His character was strong, and you could easily see how his emotions had taken over so many aspects of his decisions.

I recommend this book to psychological thriller fans.
