A Keen Mind and A Phantom Song by A. Carina Spears (Book Review #1523)

‘A Keen Mind and A Phantom Song’ is a paranormal fantasy story. It all begins with Deirdre Gale, a scientist who loves to work under the Keepers of Pyreshore. When she gets the job, she is ecstatic and does all to keep it; however, as the job becomes increasingly challenging, she understands that there is more than what meets the eye.

The fantasy romance possesses a strong female lead, which is great since we don’t often come across those. While Deirdre was an interesting character, and her charisma pulled the story together, I found Fiona, the sister-in-law, to be very intriguing indeed. She is a witch, and her personality meshed very well with the protagonist.

The pace of the story is steady and keeps you hanging on to what is to happen next. The ending left me wanting to know more but still provided enough closure. The literature is written well, and descriptive writing enables the reader to draw the scenes in your head.

I recommend this book to fantasy fans and those who enjoy female-lead stories.
