Interview with Christopher Hearn

1-When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve enjoyed writing since at least high school. Whenever a teacher would assign an essay or report to write, I felt good because that was in my comfort zone. I was excited to receive a grade in part for my writing ability.

This continued in college where I was thinking about entering into a career in writing. I did write a bit for the school newspaper, along with photography.

2-How do you schedule your life when you’re writing?

I try to write when I can. There are certain things that have to get done during the day as we all know, and writing is not my main way of making an income. Therefore I have to work at making time to write. For example, this means not watching as much TV as I may like.

3-What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I usually write with classical music playing (the “soft” or “relaxing” kind of classical). I enjoy Halidonmusic on YouTube.

4-How did you get your book published?

It’s a self-published book through Amazon (Createspace). The process was very easy. I went this way because of past history and I knew that it would be a free and quick way to get my book out for sale on Amazon.

5-Where did you get your information or idea for your book?

From talking on social media to atheists and other people who are not Christian. I realized that they were all missing some key points about the start of Christianity, namely concerning Christ’s resurrection. I saw that if I framed the discussion by asking and answering the question, “How did Christianity begin?” that the reality of Christ’s resurrection would be clearer.

6-What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I enjoy photography, reading and spending time with my family. It’s a lot of fun to travel as well. Even if it’s two hours or less from home, it’s nice to get away and see both new places and old favorites.

7-What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your book?

There is more evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ, in particular archaeological, that I knew existed before writing the book.

8-Is there anything you would like to confess about as an author?

I did a lousy job at editing and formatting my book while writing it. Everything came together in the end, but I should have thought that part of it through better and had more eyes look at it before considering it finished.

9-As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

Professional baseball player.

10-How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?

I try to learn from them to improve either the book, my writing or both. On my previous book, one person mentioned something in her review and I was able to make the change to the book.

Book Description

“How Did Christianity Begin” is meant to help Christians explain the validity of our faith to non-christians. It can also be read by people who do not believe in God to see the evidence for Christianity.

In the book, Christopher gives answers to the following reasons for not believing in God and more:

  •  We don’t really know how Christianity started
  •  Christianity is a made-up religion just like all of the others
  •  Christianity has too many legends and myths mixed in with the truth to know what is real and what isn’t
  •  The New Testament is written too late after the events to be a reliable source for knowing the truth about Jesus
  •  There is no evidence for Christianity

One of the goals of the book is to equip people so they will have more confidence when sharing their faith with others.
