Marilia, the Warlord by Morgan Cole (Book review #902)

Marilia, the warlord, is the first book of The Chrysathamere. The story begins with Marilia, who is a young girl living in a brothel. Something terrible happens and causes her to flee with her brother Annuweth and head, searching for a friend of her father, who is the Emperor of Navessea.

Marilia is strong-willed, and you see her grow and mature into a beautiful warrior. She has courage, and when Navessea faces a foreign invasion, she does not back out to defend it.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I absolutely loved the book cover. It is so in sync with the content and its story. The author did a beautiful job in presenting this book. There were elements of love, compassion, coming of age, and maturity surrounding the story. It layered out a good foundation for several more stories ahead.

There were a few times when I questioned the timing of things and how well the dialogue or personalities intertwined with the age of the characters. However, I enjoyed the relationship between the siblings. It was something that stood out for me in the book, and since the story was aimed at the younger generation, it definitely felt ideal for it. Altogether I look forward to reading more from this author.

I recommend this book to young adult fans and young heroic stories.
