‘War Angel’ is a historical novel dedicated to the nurses of the US armed forces who served in the Korean War, demonstrating bravery and strength. The book tells the story of these courageous women and their hardships. It also discusses how the Army would not accept men to serve as nurses.

While the story had a beautifully subtle flow to it, Mary, the protagonists’ thoughts, feelings, and experiences were narrated in a beautiful way.  Dialogue dominated the storytelling, but the short descriptive scenes expressed the intensity of the situation, environment, and, ultimately, the fearful unknown future they all faced.

As a woman reading this book, I felt very connected to the nurses’ situation. At heart, you feel for their difficulty and truly honor their strength. I recommend this book to historical fiction readers.
