ONE MOMENT TO THANK AN AUTHOR

Advertisements

I received an email on my birthday from an author and felt that he deserved some recognition. Thank you for thinking of me and spending the time to wish me a Happy Birthday.

I Am So Glad You Were Born

We got treated to this great phrase by a very talented writer in upstate New York, Anne Marie __________ (last name withheld pending her permission to credit). She had read to us an account of her uncle, who would call each of his nieces and nephews on their birthdays and tell them those wonderful seven words. What a fabulous thing to say to special people!

Jeyran Main, I am so glad you were born. For several years I have watched you read and post a book review just about every day. Every day! Thank you for accepting mine as one of those many, many hundreds. Every writer, and essay contributor who has had the great experience of having you “do” their book or work on Review Tales is no doubt as grateful as I am. You can be assured of that.

So Happy Birthday to you, our friend and hard-working reviewer! One can but wonder how many thousand posts you can credit by the time you reach 94 (eons from now), and finally take a couple weeks off! Meanwhile, we followers all love you. Keep up the good work.

Of Reality and Dream by Loredano cafaro (Book Review #934)

Advertisements

Of reality and dream is a collection of short stories with flash fiction elements and sharp descriptive writing. Its punchy delivery of exemplified literature truly does take you on various journeys, and since the original work is in Italian, you are bound to feel the difference in translation.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Since the collection is varied, it brought something for everyone. I believe readers who don’t like a long and twisted form of storytelling would like this one.

Its short form does not make you expect any flow or pace but instead intrigue and entertainment. I would like to read more from this author but a rather long form of storytelling. His ability in portraying an imaginary world was significantly noticeable.

I recommend this book to fiction readers and those who like short stories.

Orestin’s Own by L. Alyssa Austin (Book Review #933)

Advertisements

Orestin’s Own is a dark fantasy novel.

“A prophecy is discovered foretelling a war between gods that will consume all of Everra. A young priestess named Caelesta joins Mycellane, a frail historian, and SOLARYS, an aging Knight, on a journey to take a despised prisoner of war with dangerous, necromantic powers into the frozen wasteland to the north. They seek the glavi lucerys: the one holy weapon that could avert the destruction of their world.”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I found the story to be very compelling to read. Everything was written well and described in such a way that I didn’t want to put the book down. As much as I loved the world-building and the dynamic between the scenes and events, I kept wanting more from the characters.

The relationship between Malèbrand and Caelesta was the highlight of the story for me. The character growth was evident in the storyline, and its rich descriptive writing embodied everything needed in delivering a beautiful story.

There is more to know about the world and the characters. The story ends by closing some needed scenes but leaves so much more to know later.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read fantasy stories.
