VICTORIAN SONGLIGHT: BIRTHINGS OF MAGIC & MYSTERY by Kathy Martone (Book Review #956)

Victorian Songlight is a magic and mystery story about Kate. She comes from a troubling past and is a 41-year-old bisexual woman who lives in a small Victorian town in the Ozark mountains. Kate is an artist and has psychic powers. Her life changes when she meets a spirit named Grandfather. He is an old legend and becomes her companion throughout her ups and downs. Grandfather is the key factor in maturing Kate into the woman she really is.

The story is well written and is mixed with so much beauty, charm, and magic. At times I felt lost in all the changes that kept happening, but that didn’t take away from the enjoyment of reading the book; it just made me more intrigued, wanting to know what’s going on. The work does need formatting, and the literature requires editing; however, it was apparent to see the author had the potential to write and tell a good story.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The protagonist is puzzled, unsure, insecure, and doubtful at times; however, her character grows when she encounters new endeavors and falls in love. I particularly like female lead characters and when you see development in the storytelling. I enjoyed reading this book.

I recommend this book to fantasy readers and those who like mystery stories.
