The New Empire by Alison McBain (Book Review #1432)

‘The New Empire’ is a speculative fiction set in a two-dimensional alternative timeline. The historical story is set in the 18th century when China was the first to land and is known as the USA.

Jiangxi is an enslaved person who has to overcome all his fears and struggles in order to set himself free. The world-building is what stands out in this book. It is a very well-crafted and imaginative story.

The alternative history story brings out all the elements of intrigue and diversity. There are parts where you wonder if the rest of the story will pan out.

I felt the book’s cover design was very well designed and represented the content inside.

I recommend this book to those who like self-discovery stories and coming-of-age tales.
