Seven Visual Steps to Yes by Janet Miller Wiseman (Book Review #17)

Seven visual steps to yes is a reinforced and redesigned format of a user-friendlier book in an attempt to resolve conflict in relationships. Even if a couple is struggling to decide where to place their Christmas tree this year, Janet Wiseman is here to save the day!

Before starting to use the seven steps you first have to define the conflict to resolve it. Once that is clarified, then there is a formula of which this book goes into detail on, to come up with a solution.

Every chapter of this book explains a different situation between couples and their conflict. Step by step you get to learn how to divide the various issues and to subcategories them to see the bigger picture. You then start eliminating them based on a point system. Very simply, soon you realize that a huge problem like a divorce or having a mother in law moving in with you; is resolved in a way that you, not only have the complication settled but still have a smile on your face as well.

Janet Miller Wiseman is a certified family and divorce mediator. I found her book easy to understand and very logical. The book, in general, is something that I believe anyone would need handy in his or her life. If I had to suggest anything, it would be that an initial diagram of how the seven steps fall into place would have been an excellent addition to the book before getting into particular scenarios.

What I liked most about the book was that there are times when we think that needing and wanting something are the same. If you step back and have an in depth thought on what I just said, you realize that we have made many decisions in our lives based on wanting things rather than needing them.

In summary, the book is a fairy godmother to our 21st-century problems. It is proven to work and can be reliable. Anyone interested in a logical way of decision-making can pick this book up and find it very useful.

Disremembered by S. A. Ellis (Book Review #43)

Faith Roden has recovered from a horrific incident. She was abducted and beaten to death. I’m not sure how you could survive such an ordeal, but she recovers. Luckily amnesia assists her to carry on with her life and moves on without the normal setbacks one gets enduring such an incident.

As life progresses, she starts experiencing flashbacks. Questions begin to arise, and her curious mind wishes to understand the reasons behind them. Feelings begin to resurface, and Faith has no choice but to face the reality of what happened in her past.

The tale consistently moves between the future, the past, and the present. Faith’s father refuses to pay the ransom that could have prevented all her agony. Ben, the hero, also plays an important part in Faith’s life and fate. The story has a surprise and many twists and turns alongside the expected drama.

The Author does mention at the beginning that the book contains adult material. That is for the sexual content and some scenes that are not suitable for any audience. I think there needs to be praise give here as most writers do not warn you and the unpleasant surprise is not welcoming afterward.

S. A. Ellis takes you on a delightful journey through this book. The story has a bit of everything, love, romance, betrayal, psychological issues, drama, and much more. It is beautifully composed, and the author’s background in writing does provide her credit for the literary standard the book comprehends.

The added mystery to the whole tale was very intriguing, and the characters were captivating and relatable. I highly recommend this book and look forward to seeing more from this Author.

The Mercenary (The War Chronicles #1) by Petra Landon (Book Review #336)

The Mercenary is a science fiction romance novel written about two people. Zoran, a warrior who is a nomad with an army and Saakshi, a prisoner who is treated badly by an antagonist. Saakshi’s race is under the rule of Ketaari. Zoran can help but, he has a big decision to make. Either take advantage of the situation for himself or actually, save the galaxy and make it a better place. That’s what makes this story to be such a delightful read.

When you have a chance to go up the ladder and achieve the highest in your life, would you instead choose to help someone out or save a life instead? Would you sacrifice your chance?

The two characters were created in such a beautiful way. Saakshi was so dignified and strongminded. Her character was so appealing. Both leads were from two different race of personality and understanding. However, they worked so well together. The connection and chemistry between the two were unspoken, and that was so pleasant to read. Nothing was obvious or written out plainly to give away the excitement. The author has you reading between the lines and forces you to use your own interpretation. I really like this skill in literature, and for that, I congratulate the author for writing such refreshing material.

The world setting was drawn to be enticing. It had an original voice and refreshing inventiveness. I recommend this book to science fiction readers that appreciate good writing.

Capering on Glass Bridges by Jessica Hernandez (Book Review #44)

People are afraid to venture into “The Kingdom of Mar” since it is cursed, but the Utdrendans dared to ask a sixteen-year-old girl called Kaia Stone to go in. The people feel that she is their only hope as they believe she possesses some kind of special powers. Kaia agrees and follows through finding her way into Mar in the attempt to deliver a message to the Marian King that provides a way for the curse to be lifted.

The story contains a very sweet sisterly love, like the one you saw in Disney “Frozen.” Elania accompanies Kaia, willing to sacrifice her life for her cause and that was very sweet. Kaia, although sixteen, is wise and strong-minded. On her way with the group that is assigned to go with her, she combats dragons, ferocious beasts, injuries and encounters many more ups and downs. The story is full of drama, exciting twists, surprises, and has a stunning ending. The character interactions were fun, and the interplay between them was touching.

This tale is truly enjoyable and allows you to escape and dig into its mythical powers. The creatures and living beings were all very well explained in detail, however, I believe needed a little more depth. The start of the book was very confusing, but reading more into the book, you do understand what the tale is about. The confusing part is because it throws you directly into the middle of a fictional world right from the start. If you have no background reading mythology, you can feel a bit overwhelmed.

I was not sure who was saying what at times, but the plot was so intriguing that it did not bother me as much. The pace of the story moved swiftly, and I did not feel that it dragged or was slow at all. I believe this Author has potential.

This is a very suitable story for Young Adult book lovers. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Through the Mirror – Tales & Stories by Joanna Paterson (Book Review #87)

Joanna Paterson enters us into this imaginary world of five stories; Through the Mirror, Shifting Shapes, Belle’s Diary in the Cedar Boughs, Fabled Antiquity and Landscapes & Legends.

These five stories all take part in individual settings, written with a strong poetic form of literature. There are many exemplary wordings and references to nature in a fantasy world where the sky is the limit, and everything is “Higgledy- Piggledy.”

Be warned that once you start reading this book, you will have to take in some deep breaths just to not drown yourself with the brilliant imagination of its resemblance of “Alice in Wonderland.”

In this book you can walk through the Mirror where Cinderella is thin and wears dark leather boots, cedar trees slide shoes over the sky and the moon and the sun talk. There are mystical animals referenced which are just the first story of the book.

I believe that this book is a great tale to read if you are into poems and poetic stories. This style of writing requires special skills, and not everyone can understand the meanings of the content unless they are familiar with the format of literature.

I recommend this book to individuals with the same taste in its particular genre.

The Fall (Book One)- Conversion by S. T. Campitelli (Book Review #343)

The Fall is a post-apocalyptic story. It’s set in Australia and the year is 2052. It is two years after a viral outbreak has devastated the country. The virus has pretty much created a division between the survivors and the infected. There are still places where the survivors can obtain critical supplies, but they have to step into the contaminated area, and John Bradley is brave enough to do that. He also has the hope of possibly finding the means to heal the ones that have been affected.

Changing Your Path by Bibiana Krall

Changing Your Path by Bibiana Krall

My name is Bibiana Krall; I am a novelist, full-time grad student of creative writing, mother, and wife. Thank you so much for having me here Jeyran!
Today I want to talk about embracing change and how to face your fears to propel you into seeking your better self.
Two years ago I quit my steady corporate job and decided to begin writing novels full time, along with pursuing my master’s degree. It had been a dream since age five for me, and then life happened. I have come to the honest conclusion that I simply wasn’t ready yet.
January can be an amazing month where we are renewed by the hope of a new year. We can also be crippled by the fear of the changes that may come when we move forward. I am forty-eight years old and look around my peer group with an important question for you, especially women.
Have you noted the laundry list of resolutions in your mind and then by February gave in to the feeling of dread that it was all for nothing? It isn’t and here’s why…
Change and fear of change have its place. I won’t argue that it’s scary. As you age, this feeling will only get worse. What you might ask your future self is this…Are you fearful of change or like me, fearful of not trying hard enough?
There are sacrifices involved and taking positive action is a mindful choice. If I could rewind and tell my future self how empowered I am to be here right now talking about it, I would have said do it now. Are we all killing time in wait for the perfect moment to grab life, passion, and dreams?
It is so important to realize, especially in mid-stream, that we can change, we can pursue our dreams, and it’s wonderful to want more, In fact, it’s pretty darn amazing.
The only thing holding me back was myself. I am more dynamic, satisfied and happy than I have been in years. Life should be about the journey, and I am thrilled to be totally engaged in this new adventure.
My particular goal choices may not be yours, but whatever it is that stirs your passion and gifts… this should be a priority for you right now.
The world is waiting for you to listen to your inner voice. Stop making excuses and take your motivation to another level. My wish for anyone reading this is a lush life with no regrets.

Nothing but blue skies from here, until the next goal and the next. If you have already begun, I salute you for your courage and walk with you in spirit. It has been an honor to be here today.
Until the next time- Find your peace, love, hustle and then write. Xoxo

The Buried Symbol (The Runes of Issalia #1) by Jeffrey L. Kohanek (Book Review #86)

This review was kindly requested by the Author, Jeffrey L. Kohanek

This book is like a breath of fresh air! Brock is stuck in a world where an individual’s self-worth is categorized and classed based on runes. At the beginning of the story, the author welcomes you to a beautifully described world which Brock lives in. His aunt is on her death bed; they hardly have enough money to even provide medication for her. Brock is tired of being ignored and everyone around him seems to have accepted their fate. His dying aunt informs him about a guy named Alonza that can mark him as a member of the empires ruling class and create a fake tattoo for him. Brock takes this chance and changes his destiny.

The Empire trains leaders and Brock becomes a student at the academy. As he becomes accustomed to his new way of living, he discovers special powers and secrets that change everything for him.

I found Brock’s character written to be completely relatable and it was very easy to bond with him. The supporting cast also played a strong and much-needed part of the whole tale. This was necessary and done in a very well put together plot simply because there was a need for more depth in this tale.

The pace, action, drama, and twists were nicely presented at the appropriate times. There are references to drugs, some violence, and sexual content but not anything explicit to warn you from. The fantasy world is very intriguing and there is enough compelling content to make you not want to put the book down.

There are pleasantly drawn maps and pictures within the book that make it stand out and different than others in its same genre.

I recommend this book to anyone that likes science fiction and fantasy.

Kings of This World by Peter Bailey (Book Review #333)

Kings of this world is a sci-fi horror story about Matthew and Jeremy. Matthew wakes up one day noticing that everyone in London has gone crazy. Everyone is basically behaving abnormal, conducting actions that one would not encounter on a normal basis. Things like people having sex on the street, taking a dump, or killing each other over silly things.

As it takes Matthew a few chapters to discover what is going on in the world, he meets Jeremy, who also happens to have kept his mind intact. They both seek reason and understand that it is all based on aliens taking over the land harvesting people to create a weapon.

I firstly wanted to congratulate the author on the novel approach to storytelling. I have read many books, but I have never read something like this before. The literature was easy to follow, and the story had a smooth paste to it. The subject matter did have some sensitive topics that may be disturbing for some to read but if you like thrilling horror style books, this would also suit your desire.

I am not a big fan of aliens and the notion of stories that revolve around them. However, the author’s innovative style of writing was enjoyable to read. I recommend this book to sci-fi readers.
