Judenrein by Harold Benjamin (Book Review #777)

Judenrein is a dystopian thriller that envisions America’s Jews’ fate after a white supremacist cabal seizes power in the federal government. The story begins with Zack Gurevitz, who has an exciting past. He is a Yeshika boy, and as luck has it, the White supremacist movement overpowers America and rains on the Jews. They are then undergone much scrutiny being stripped of their prosperity and nationality. Zak is contacted by the Jewish leaders to protect the people from a terror attack, and that is when the action-packed tale takes on an even harder challenge.

The book brings attention to societal concerns that Americans are faced with today. The word Judenrein means ‘free of Jews,’ and I found it very fitting for the storyline the author chose to tell. I admired and really enjoyed the dynamic of the tale. There are twists and turns surprising you all the way and keeping you entertained.

I particularly liked Zack as he is a former Green Beret and has a problematic past. This creates an excellent character providing depth, personality and displays of courage for change. The book is not for everyone, but if you do pick it, you may need to brush off some history lessons.
