The latecomer is a novel written about an old couple who are forced into early retirement. Their children live far away, and as they enter a new phase in their life and relationship, Maggie and Charlie, seek more of a depth and understanding into their marriage. This spiritual retreat becomes the essence of the story taking Charlie at first and then Maggie afterward.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The story is a soul searching one where the couple- in their own way – question love and wonder how wisdom, health and age can either break or make a bond for two people. The dynamic of emotions, the loss and distance caused by this journey of which the couple take separately made this story stand out in so many ways.

The literature was beautifully described with the added touch of care explaining the matter of an old aged relationship and its complications. I believe this book would suit couples who have aged together.

This therapeutic journey uncovers many secrets, and anyone who likes magical realism, suspense, action and adventure stories would find this one very appealing.
