The Dry by Judith Pratt (Book Review #490)

The dry is a coming of age story set in the fantasy genre. The world set up is completely different in such a way that everyone that crosses this strange desert type of land, loses their mind. This can be avoided if only you have the right guide navigating you through the landscape. The world is filled with magic.

Miskin wishes to become a guide and runs away in order to become one. That is when the story becomes thought-provoking and her drive traveling cross the Dry with Samiya is what makes the story special.

I found the pace of the story to be steady and the literature easy to understand. I appreciated the novel approach of the storyline. I had not read anything similar to it and for that, I believe praise, is justified.

Each character held its own personality and storyline. The author spent a good amount of time describing the landscape, mirages, storms, sand dunes and the adventures. The content also had a hidden side of a point where the reader would learn something from the story.

I believe this story would suit many fantasy readers. I look forward to reading more from this author.
